Weapons, armour and crafting your way

Different weapons. Different defences. A first look at crafting equipment around your priorities—and upgrading a favourite set as you progress.

Weapons, armour and crafting your way

Choose your approach to combat

Equipment choices will shape how you fight in Aarkun. Our armour direction includes chain mail for protection against slashing and piercing, with a weakness to crushing; plate for broad physical protection, at the cost of taking extra magic damage; leather for limited protection, light weight and a speed bonus; and cloth for greater speed with almost no physical protection.

Weapons have their own identities too: daggers focus on critical-hit chance and critical damage, swords balance their strengths with increased critical-hit chance, axes favour powerful but less frequent critical bursts, and hammers and mauls favour steady damage across foes with a small chance to stun.

One item, different priorities

The updated crafting workshop lets the same base item take different bonus directions. Bronze Footman armour can lean towards Balanced, Bulwark or Mobile: keep the base profile, favour toughness with extra weight, or favour mobility with a defensive trade-off.

Magical equipment follows the same idea. The Staff of the Novice Mage offers Casting, Potency and Recovery directions, favouring cast speed, spell-damage scaling or magic regeneration.

Keep a favourite set growing

We are organising armour and weapon sets into tiers, with upgrades intended to help them stay useful as you progress. The cover shows Bronze Footman at +0; below is the current +2 glow experiment. It is a little enthusiastic! We are also considering optional glow, since players hoping to hide in Aarkun's dark nights may prefer a subtler look.

Everything here is a development preview: combat balance, crafting bonuses and upgrade visuals can change. A later elemental layer could add effects such as fire resistance or a chance to deal fire damage; that is planned work, rather than part of the crafting shown here. Would you craft for toughness or mobility—and keep the glow on? Tell us in Discord.
