Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-05-20. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it. If anything is unclear, ask us in Discord and we will rewrite it.

Who we are

Aarkun is built by Arcana Smithy, an independent game studio. The Aarkun website at aarkun.com, the official Discord server, the Patreon page, and the YouTube channel are all operated by us. Third-party services we use (Patreon, Discord, YouTube, Facebook, Google) have their own privacy policies; this policy covers what we collect ourselves.

What we collect

  • Newsletter sign-ups. Your email address, the date you signed up, and (if provided) your name. Used only to send you Aarkun development updates.
  • Account data. If you create an account on aarkun.com (for closed-alpha access or community features), we store your email, a password hash, and any profile fields you choose to fill in.
  • Standard server logs. Like every website, our servers automatically record IP addresses, request paths, user-agent strings, and timestamps for the requests we serve. We use these for diagnostics, rate-limiting, and basic anti-abuse — not for advertising or profiling.
  • Aggregated analytics. We may use privacy-respecting analytics (e.g. server-side counters, or providers like Plausible that do not set tracking cookies) to understand traffic patterns. We do not run cross-site advertising trackers.

We do not collect payment information directly. All paid transactions are handled by Patreon, who hold your card details on their own systems under their own policy.

What we do with it

  • Send you the things you signed up for (newsletter, development updates, account-related notifications).
  • Operate and protect the website (diagnostics, rate-limiting, fraud prevention).
  • Understand which articles and pages are useful so we can write better ones.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We do not share it with third parties for marketing purposes.

Third-party services we use

These services receive data when you interact with them. Each has its own privacy policy linked from their site:

  • Patreon — for subscriptions and patron rewards.
  • Discord — for the official community server.
  • YouTube (Google) — for videos and devlogs.
  • Facebook — for the official page.
  • Email provider — for sending newsletter and transactional emails.
  • Hosting provider — for serving the website.

Cookies

We use a small number of strictly necessary cookies (e.g. a session cookie if you are logged in). We do not use third-party advertising cookies. We will update this section if we ever add optional cookies, and we will ask for consent first.

Your rights

If you live in the UK or EU, you have rights under the UK GDPR / EU GDPR including the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data. If you live elsewhere, similar rights may apply under your local law. To exercise any of these rights, email us at support@aarkun.com and we will respond within 30 days.

How long we keep data

We keep newsletter email addresses until you unsubscribe (there is an unsubscribe link in every email). Account data is kept while your account is active and for a short period after deletion in case you change your mind. Server logs are rotated and purged within 90 days.

Children

Aarkun is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the project grows. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be announced in our newsletter and on the Discord server.
